If you've owned a Delonghi before and been happy with it, you'll like this one too. We go through an espresso machine about every 1-3 years, as my husband is Portuguese and we drink espresso daily. This machine makes good espresso with a very nice thick crema on top.

I rather like this machine. It does not take up a lot of counter space. There is plastic on the housing but I don't think this is going to be a problem, and we've owned this machine for about 2-3 months at the time I write this.

The water bottle is easy to fill and large enough to hold several cups, and the espresso is good and rich-tasting with a nice crema. We don't use the frother, so I cannot comment on that. The hot plate on the top is not hot enough to heat a cup, but that's never been a concern for me. The drip pan fills pretty fast, be prepared to empty it on a regular basis (but it's easy to do quickly)
I like the Delonghi style of coffee ground pan, you can take the bugger apart and clean it thoroughly, which you will need to do on a regular basis, as it will clog with coffee. The holes are large enough to clean with an old toothbrush.

Here's a tip on cleaning the coffee pan holes: Scrub the pan holes with a toothbrush using Greased Lightening or a similar cleaning product. You can tell when it's clean by holding the pan up to the light and seeing if the holes are clear. Greased Lightening cuts through coffee residue better than anything I've found. However, be advised this product is definitely a chemical and smells pretty toxic, so be sure to rinse the pan repeatedly after you get it clean to get all the cleaner off of the pan. I try to clean mine every week at least. Once in a blue moon you need to empty the pot totally and clean the holes where the water comes out of the machine because coffee will get up in there over time also.

If you have trouble getting used coffee grounds out of the pan (as they can get pretty firmly packed in there), my suggestion is to find a small wooden or bamboo spoon to help remove them. Using metal spoons or implements can scratch the pan and possibly damage the holes in the bottom. I ordered a small cheap bamboo spoon that works really well for this. (look on ebay if you can't find a small spoon locally)

Also, we use filtered water from our refrigerator dispenser in our coffee machine, which helps to avoid scale forming inside the machine. I strongly advise using filtered water in espresso machines, because frankly, you won't clean it often enough otherwise to keep it cleaned out inside. (trust me, this is a job you'll most likely put off in favor of more fun activities).

The best recommendation for Delonghi comes from my European husband--he's been an espresso drinker all his life and he definitely likes the coffee from this machine.

Our coffee brand? We usually order Cafe Bustelo or La Laza from CVS by mail order. The coffee comes pre-ground for espresso, it's vac-packed, it tastes good but not bitter, and it works really well in espresso machines. If you earn CVS bucks regularly and watch their sales, you can order your coffee for a really good price. They usually put on a pretty good sale about the time the bucks come in twice a year and that's when I stock up.

Beautiful but the Refurb didn't work! - Explorer - World Traveler
I love the look and weight of this Espresso Maching but I couldn't seem to get it to work. I sent it back and got a full refund. The company was easy to work with and even split the shipping back with me. They said that the product worked when they got it back a t their shop and tested it. So, I had to pay shipping back. I thought that was fair. Maybe I wasn't using it properly or maybe it doesn't work the way it's supposed to. Either way, it didn't function for me and I got a fair shake from the company. I wish it would have performed to my expectations though because it was beautiful. I just couldn't get the water to dispense. I finally got steam out of it and then the water did dispense some but not as expected. Then I began smelling something that was burning inside the machine so I shut it off and sent it back. I have used a commercial machine at work so maybe my expectations were too high for this product. I wouldn't discourage anyone from buying from them as they treated me fairly and again, it could have been me. Maybe you will have better luck.
